It’s  Small Charity Week! What better time is it to celebrate the amazing work that small charities do every single day across the UK. Although, these organisations might not have a vast budget or big teams, what they do have is heart, commitment, and a massive impact on the communities around them.

Why Small Charities Deserve the Spotlight

This week is all about shining a light and raising awareness on our local charities. Currently smaller charities are facing some tough challenges, costs are increasing and demands for their services are growing but also funding is getting harder to find. So, this week, in honour of small charity week, we want to show our support and recognise all their hard work!

Meet the Active Essex Foundation

We are lucky here in Essex, we have some amazing small charities that are making a real difference in the community. Therefore, as part of Small Charity Week we wanted to take a moment to shout about some of the work that the Active Essex Foundation have been putting in. We are a small but mighty team right here in Essex and our mission is simple: we use sport and physical activity to help tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our communities. So, whether it’s supporting young people’s mental health, helping to prevent youth crime, or just creating safe, inclusive spaces for people to connect, we’re all about making a difference where it’s needed most.

The Active Essex Foundation works with over 200 amazing local organisations across Essex, Southend and Thurrock. Together we are creating stronger, healthier, and more active communities. Equally, it’s about developing the conditions for people to thrive and we believe sport is one of the most powerful ways to do just that. Sport and physical activity aren’t just about fitness, they’re powerful tools for many things. For example, building confidence, improving mental health and creating safe spaces for young people.

Why This Work Matters More Than Ever

With more and more young children facing mental health challenges, we believe its more important than ever to support and do our best to help them overcome the challenges their facing. Evidently, the NHS England reports show 1 in 5 children and teens are facing mental health challenges that can affect their relationships, education, and future. The Active Essex Foundation is stepping in to change that by doing our part to encourage the use of tools such as physical activity to boost wellbeing within young people across Essex.

The Active Essex Foundation is just one example of how a small, dedicated team can create real change. By supporting young people, strengthening communities, and using sport to create lasting change.

This Small Charity Week, let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of small charities across the UK. Equally, let’s raise awareness, show our support, and recognise the impact they’re making.

Because when we invest in small charities, we’re not just supporting services, we’re building a brighter, healthier, and more connected future for everyone.
